A message from your Alumni Council President
Ed McCormick, ‘79
A mild winter has eased us into a glorious spring, allowing for incredible growth on the Saint Vincent campus. While Father Sebastian's Garden explodes with color and the willow trees sway in the breeze, current students prepare for finals and graduation. Your Alumni Council has expanded into the new season with much to do. On March 30th, the Etiquette Dinner was held in the Rogers' Center. This event is a networking and educational model, as seniors and alumni sharing common majors are "schooled" in the formal role of dining in their professional world.
The Father Gilbert Burke Easter Ball is on tap for Saturday, April 14th at the Lexus Club in Pittsburgh. This event, a benefit for the Alumni Council Scholarship Fund, will feature an elegant buffet, the energetic band Dreamscape, as well as silent and open auctions. A renewed event from an earlier era, the Easter Ball continues the sense of community and philanthropy associated with the Benedictine tradition. The Alumni and Friends Golf Outing will tee off at Latrobe Elks and Champion Lakes on June 1st. The Prep School has been anticipating their June 9 event, as well as Father Vernon Holtz's 50th Anniversary. On June 16th, Saint Vincent Alumni will be heading for the Pittsburgh Zoo for a day of family fun and adventure. On May 19th, Alumni Council will convene in the Sis and Herman Dupré Science Pavilion to lay the plans for the rest of 2012, including local luncheons and regional meetings.
As the spring weather leads to summer, we are looking forward to the return of many alumni who will find some amazing upgrades in construction, curriculum and community at Saint Vincent. When you do return, take time to experience the campus as it has evolved. Whether you ride or walk, realize that from the Basilica and crypt to the new Sis and Herman Dupré Science Pavilion, from the campus entrance to Sauerkraut Tower, you will see change and tradition coexisting. We continue to publicize the Bearcat Nation on the Internet, encouraging alumni and students to investigate and make personal connections for their own development. While you are viewing Saint Vincent online, send us an email and update your contact information so we may stay in touch. Make yourself available to these events and opportunities.
