Saint Vincent College will host Clare Beams as the third and final speaker in its Visiting Writers Series for the spring semester at 5 p.m. Friday, March 17, in the Luparello Lecture Hall in the Sis and Herman Dupré Science Pavilion on the campus of Saint Vincent College. Admission is free and open to the public.
Her debut story collection, We Show What We Have Learned, was published by Lookout Books in October and was a Kirkus Best Debut of 2016 and a finalist for the PEN/Robert W. Bingham prize. Her fiction appears in One Story, Electric Literature, Best American Nonrequired Reading, Ecotone and elsewhere, and has received special mention in Best American Short Stories. A 2014 NEA fellow in prose, she teaches at Carnegie Mellon University and the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. Beams lives in Pittsburgh with her husband and two daughters.
The Visiting Writers Series has brought many writers of merit to Saint Vincent ever since its founding in 2008, including Daniel Borzutzky, Ben Lerner, Carmen Gimenez Smith and Rick Hilles. The series presents writers from a diverse number of locations from western Pennsylvania and beyond.
