Ed Saxton, a Saint Vincent College communication graduate who is now vice president of production for Schell Games, will be a guest speaker at 12:30 p.m. Friday, April 21, in the Prep Hall MacIntosh laboratory (room 219).
He will be talking with students in David Safin’s Digital Media Capstone class about the Schell Games company and what it does. He will also talk about the role that a producer plays in development and show their new studio video. The session is not open to the public due to limited seating but he will also be available before and after class to talk with students and area residents interested in learning more about the gaming industry.
Saxton supervises the company’s production team and sets the tone for the production style. Prior to joining Schell Games, he worked in management and capital project development in the theme park industry. This background led to a deep understanding of priority and process, along with a love of creating experiences that make lasting memories for the end user. Saxton’s love of working on teams and problem solving led him to Schell Games where he focuses on mentoring and managing within the production department, collaborating with teams to ensure projects finish on time and on budget and incorporating positive team dynamics within the studio.
He earned a bachelor of arts degree in 2005 at Saint Vincent. “The communication department at Saint Vincent helped prepare me to excel as part of a team,” he commented. “The small class sizes and projects we completed as part of the major allowed me to develop as a leader and team member along with developing an understanding of how to effectively communicate through different mediums. My Saint Vincent education is the foundation my entire career has been built upon.”
“As a producer at Schell Games every day presents interesting and exciting challenges and I am inspired by the amazing people here,” he added. “Our teams are working together to produce award-winning products for a range of clients and our own internal internet protocol. Getting to see projects ranging from mobile and virtual reality games to interactive installations and theme park attractions go from an idea to a reality is something really special. I am glad I get to be a part of it. I want to continue making experiences I am proud of with amazing people.”
