Saint Vincent College Career Center staffOne year after graduating from Saint Vincent College, 98 percent of the class of 2016 are reporting impressive success in their initial career employment or enrollment in graduate or professional schools.

“Our tracking of last year’s graduates’ career outcomes in our ‘first destination survey’ exceeded previous studies we have done of our graduates,” commented Courtney Baum, director of the Saint Vincent College Career Center. “Our knowledge rate – the percentage of graduates for which Saint Vincent College has verifiable information concerning career outcomes for the class of 2016 – is 96 percent, an increase of 1 percent over the previous year. We were able to contact and interview 292 of the 305 students who completed their degrees in August 2015, December 2015 or May 2016, a level of participation which results in credible statistics.”

Baum’s report revealed a career outcomes rate (students who said they were actively seeking post-graduate plans) of 98 percent which includes 194 students employed (68 percent) and 80 students continuing their education in graduate, medical or law professional schools (28 percent). Three grads chose volunteer service and three enlisted in the military.

A review of the report shows that the companies which hired Saint Vincent graduates are diverse and reputable and the graduate and professional schools are very competitive. “Our students form a relationship with Saint Vincent College which deepens over their four years here,” Baum noted. “It is one of the reasons they chose to enroll here. They are very interested in planning their futures and work with a supportive faculty and staff to achieve their goals. They aim high and want to achieve personal success and represent the college well.”

Baum pointed out that a review of the job titles which students are getting is quite impressive. “They are receiving titles which suggest an opportunity to make a real impact on their organizations,” she said. “We are also seeing an upswing in starting salaries this year, with some receiving offers of annual salaries of $60,000 or more. Employers like our graduates because of their high quality educational preparation and the character and values-orientation which they have developed.”

Among the employers hiring SVC class of 2016 graduates are Bechtel Marine Propulsion Corporation, BNY Mellon Corporation, Dick’s Sporting Goods Inc., General Nutrition Centers, Inc., Kennametal Inc, MWA Intelligence, Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry,

PNC Financial Services, PPG Industries, PureRed Integrated Marketing, SAP America Inc., Stanley Black and Decker Inc.,Thermo Fisher Scientific, Third Wave Business Systems, Qualtrics and many others.

Graduate and professional schools where Saint Vincent grads are now enrolled include American University, Baylor University, Boston College, Duquesne University School of Law, George Washington University, Georgetown University, Penn State College of Medicine, Rutgers University Department of Biomedical Sciences, University of Pittsburgh School of Engineering, University of Pittsburgh School of Law, University of Maryland and the University of Virginia School of Medicine.

“We suggest that college-bound high school students and their parents examine the success which our graduates have achieved as part of their own search for a college or university that will help them achieve their goals,” Baum concluded. “We are proud of our graduates’ first destinations and we are proud to share all of the information we have compiled. The report includes the employer and job title by major field of study. It also lists the graduate or professional schools with specific programs or department grouped by their major. We are available to answer any questions about the survey and the results.”
