William J. Beitler of Washington, a graduate of Saint Vincent Preparatory School, will be among 10 alumni honored with the presentation of Alumni of Distinction Awards at a reception and dinner on Friday, Sept. 29, during the annual Alumni Homecoming and Fall Family Weekend on campus.
The awards are made by the Saint Vincent Alumni Association in recognition of meritorious service and commitment to Saint Vincent.
Beitler graduated from the former Saint Vincent Preparatory School in 1960 and earned a bachelor’s degree from John Carroll University as a transportation major. He pursued graduate school in transportation at the University of Tennessee.
At Saint Vincent he was active in football, muskrat trapping, choir and glee club.
A member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Scenery Hill, he is active in the Civil Air Patrol, Mission Aviation Fellowship, Salvation Army, Traffic Club of Pittsburgh and the Warbirds of America.
He was formerly involved with the Military Transportation Corps, Bronze Star Meritorious Services in Viet Nam and the Civil Air Patrol.
He and his wife, Bjŏrg, have three grown children, Bill, Quentin and Richard.
His hobbies include flying, golf and travel.
A full weekend of Homecoming activities is planned in conjunction with the Office of Student Affairs Fall Family Weekend with school receptions, athletic events, parade (Saturday, Sept. 30 at 11:30 a.m.), corn hole tournament, equestrian demonstration, picnic, fall fest carnival (Saturday, Sept. 30 from 3:30 to 6 p.m.), campus trolley tours, alumni social (Saturday, Sept. 30 from 4 to 7 p.m.), entertainment and other events.
