Saint Vincent College will join more than two dozen partner organizations participating in the Play It Forward Pittsburgh campaign to encourage organ donation with a special event at the first Presidents’ Athletic Conference match-up of the season with the Saint Vincent College Bearcats vs Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets women’s and men’s varsity basketball doubleheader games at 4 and 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, in the Robert S. Carey Student Center.
Play It Forward Pittsburgh is a regional campaign led by the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Pirates and the Pittsburgh Penguins and other partners in business, entertainment, medicine and education committed to an initiative to reduce the organ waiting list and help more people access organ transplants by raising funds to support the Starzl Center for Pediatric Transplantation Excellence and encourage area residents to register as organ donors.
Organ donors and recipients present at the games will be recognized and information will be available for anyone interested in registration as a donor. Those who are registered or who register that evening will be entered into a drawing for Steelers and Penguins tickets, T-shirts and other prizes.
A video is being prepared that features the story of Saint Vincent College Dean of Students Bob Baum, who had a successful kidney transplant several years ago. Br. Norman W. Hipps, O.S.B., president of Saint Vincent College, is featured in another video talking about a friend who lived a long life after a successful heart transplant.
