Saint Vincent Alumni Council will hold its annual fundraiser for the Father Gilbert J. Burke, O.S.B. Alumni Scholarship Fund on Saturday, May 19, at the Fred M. Rogers Center on the campus of Saint Vincent College.
This year’s event is titled Maifest (MY-fest) and will celebrate the Bavarian heritage of Saint Vincent founder Boniface Wimmer as well as the spring season.
The Alumni Council has invited all alumni, guests and friends of Saint Vincent College, Preparatory School and Seminary to attend Maifest and support the Scholarship Fund.
The evening event will begin with an optional bilingual German language Mass at 5 p.m. in the Mary, Mother of Wisdom Student Chapel located in the Robert S. Carey Student Center.
Doors to Maifest will open at 6 p.m. with German food, beer and other selections.
Pittsburgh’s Autobahn Band will provide entertainment and several auctions will be held. Prizes for the auctions are donated by alumni and friends of Saint Vincent and all proceeds will benefit the Scholarship Fund.
The planning committee is led by Ryan Retter, a graduate of the class of 2008, who is the president-elect of Alumni Council.
The planning committee kept Father Gilbert’s spirit in mind throughout the planning of the event.
“The Saint Vincent Alumni Council is honored to carry forward Father Gilbert’s legacy for the benefit of future generations of students and alumni and pay tribute to Father Gilbert’s hospitable nature and contributions to Saint Vincent,” Retter commented. “This year’s Maifest will honor the foundation of Saint Vincent and celebrate all opportunities Saint Vincent continues to offer its students. The committee thanks all alumni, administration, faculty and friends who have donated, attended and supported the Alumni Scholarship Fund in any way. We hope to see you at Maifest!”
Tickets for Maifest can be purchased online for $80 per person and includes admission and all food and beverages at the event. For more information, contact the Alumni Office at 724 805-2568 or email@example.com.
The Father Gilbert J. Burke Alumni Scholarship Fund was established in 2001. It provides scholarship support to full-time Saint Vincent College students with academic merit and financial need. The scholarship enables Alumni Council to heighten student interest in alumni activities, encouraging students to remain active in the Saint Vincent community after their graduation from the College. The awarding of the scholarship is also a means for encouraging philanthropy back to the Saint Vincent Community.
