Mitchell G. Farrell, an accounting and music double major, has been named the 44th annual winner of the President’s Award, Saint Vincent College’s highest student honor, presented to the member of the graduating class who best embodies what the Catholic, Benedictine, liberal arts college values in its students – outstanding academic achievement, student leadership and community service.
In making the presentation, Br. Norman commented, “For his countless contributions to the Saint Vincent College community, as a leader in the Student Government Association; multiple honor societies; for his diligence in his accounting studies; for his involvement with Campus Ministry; for his sensible, creative and passionate mission work for the people of Haiti; for his participation in numerous campus musicals (including the “Beast” in Beauty and the Beast); for his volunteer work for Cochlear America; for his love of the fine arts, his faith and his parish; for his dedication to helping others whenever possible exemplifying the Catholic, Benedictine liberal arts values of Saint Vincent College, it is my honor as president of Saint Vincent College to confer upon Mitchell G. Farrell, the President’s Award, this 25th day of April, 2018.”
Farrell also received one of five Student Government Senior Awards and The Undergraduate Award for Excellence in a Major Field of Study for his Music major.
Farrell, son of Greg and Michelle Farrell, is a 2014 graduate of Saint Joseph High School, Natrona Heights.
Active in the Student Government Association as executive board treasurer (2017), class treasurer (2015-16) and class secretary (2014), he has also served as a member of the Orientation Committee and as a member of the Middle States Self-Study Committee for Standard VII.
A member of the Dean’s List, Farrell is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and Delta Mu Delta Honor Society in Business Administration and was the recipient of a Student Leadership and Service Award.
He has volunteered for three service trips to Haiti, serves as director of the Banana Project, member of the Saint Vincent College Singers and has performed in several productions by the Saint Vincent College Players including Carousel, All Shook Up and the lead role in Beauty and the Beast.
A volunteer for Campus Ministry, he has served as a cantor for Mass and ecumenical services and as a member of the leadership team. He has been a regular participant in the March for Life in Washington, D.C.
He attended the SAP Business One Summit in Miami, Florida, in 2016.
An Admission Ambassador, he has also served as a work-study assistant in the Music Department and the McKenna School. In his home community, he has served as a volunteer for Cochlear Americas and as a Director of Harvest for Haiti. He is a member of Mount Saint Peter Parish, New Kensington.
After graduation, he will begin work in June as a staff associate at Sisterson and Company LLP and plans to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
