Chinese university officials visit SVC

Br. Norman W. Hipps, O.S.B., left, president of Saint Vincent College, and Archabbot Douglas R. Nowicki, O.S.B., right, chancellor, recently welcomed representatives of Sanda University of Shanghai, China, to campus, from left, Dr. Ju Wei, project manager; Dr. Jia Qiaoping, vice president; and Dr. Fan Jianhua, professor and dean of the school of international education. The purpose of their visit was to discuss collaborative efforts. In the past two years, Robert Markley, Latrobe Specialty Steel Company Sponsored Instructor in Business Administration and Fr. Bonaventure Curtis, O.S.B., assistant professor of business administration, have taught at Sanda; Dr. Bo Liang, assistant professor of marketing, will teach there this summer. Exchange possibilities in early childhood education and the teaching of Chinese are also being considered. Sanda University is the first private university established in the People's Republic of China. The university has approximately 10,000 students and 450 full-time academic staff, covering a range of academic disciplines including business, computer science, engineering, foreign languages and management.
