by Public Relations | Feb 08, 2019

LATROBE, PA – Saint Vincent College’s Herbert W. Boyer School of Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Computing and the college’s admission office will team up to host a nursing night from 4:30-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27.

The event aims to present information to prospective students and parents on Saint Vincent’s new Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) collaboration with Carlow University, which was announced in June.

Registration will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Sis and Herman Dupré Science Pavilion, and will include light refreshments and a meet and greet with SVC admission counselors.

Following registration, there will be a panel presented by Dr. Stephen Jodis, dean of the Herbert W. Boyer School of Natural Science, Mathematics and Computing; Heather Kabala, Saint Vincent College dean of admission; Dr. Helen Burns, senior vice president and chief nursing administrator, Excela Health; Dr. Janice Nash, Carlow University BSN program director; and Carlow University nursing alumnae.

A second panel will follow, this one presented by current Carlow nursing students and students from the Boyer School at Saint Vincent.

The evening will culminate with the attendees observing a surgical demonstration in the state-of-the-art Liberatore Human Anatomy Lab conducted by Dr. Gregory Bisignani, orthopedic surgeon at Excela Health, and Dr. Carl Hasselman, orthopedic surgeon at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

For more information on the event, and to register, contact Colleen Palumbo at 724-805-2485 or colleen.palumbo@stvincent.edu.

Parking for attendees will be available in Lot A, adjacent to the Fred M. Rogers Center near the entrance to campus. Shuttles will be available to transport attendees to and from the Sis and Herman Dupré Science Pavilion.

In June 2018, Saint Vincent and Carlow jointly announced that the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing approved their collaborative plan to offer Carlow’s BSN program on-site at Saint Vincent beginning in the fall of 2019. Students will enroll as Saint Vincent students on campus for the first two years. While living and studying at Saint Vincent their last two years, students will be Carlow students, taught by Carlow nursing faculty, and will be awarded their BSN degree by Carlow. Nursing students will utilize the excellent facilities of the Sis and Herman Dupré Science Pavilion, while taking advantage of a strong existing partnership between Saint Vincent and Excela Health.
