Frequently Asked Questionsfrequently-asked-questions
  • What is Grandparents University?

Saint Vincent College Grandparents University® is a unique two day intergenerational enrichment opportunity designed to actively engage youth and build relationships. SVC will welcome student’s ages 7 – 14 years old and their grandparents to campus to create and share in fun-filled memories. Participants will register for a “major”, experience living in the resident halls, learning in SVC classrooms, and sample the many highlights of Saint Vincent College. Upon completion of the program, participants will receive a graduation certificate for their hard work during their time at SVC’s Grandparents University®.

  • Can one adult bring two children?

Each child must be accompanied by an adult at all times. One adult can bring two children; however, all three would stay together and attend all the same classes.

  • Must the adult be the child's grandparent?

While this program is designed for grandparents and grandchildren, we recognize that some situations may arise where a grandparent is unable to attend. This event is designed to bridge the gap between the generations. In the event that no grandparents are living or in good enough health to participate, consider including a great aunt or uncle or very close friend of the family of the grandparent generation.

  • What are the age requirements?

We recommend that children be between seven to fourteen years old. Each parent/grandparent will need to decide if the child can handle the attention span required and seek to enroll in a major that would hold interest for the child.

  • Do you have to be alumni to participate?

No! The adult does not need to be SVC Alumni in order to participate. Participants do not need to live in or around the Latrobe area to participate in SVC’s GPU® summer program. Other GPU® programs around the country have participants that travel hundreds of miles and hail from several states. This is such a unique experience for grandparents and grandchildren to connect with people who traveled from all over to attend!

  • Is there another date and time that this program is being offered?

Grandparents University is only offered one time during the summer.

  • What time should we arrive? When can we move into the residence hall?

Specific details will be sent to all participants several weeks before the event and will include instructions and times for move-in, what to bring, and all the other details involving this experience. Until then, see the Schedule for an estimated times and activities.

  • How soon can I apply for GPU?

Registration will be open on April 3, 2017. Applications will no longer be accepted when GPU reaches full capacity.
