On Nov. 14, more than 125 high school students from grades 9-12 attended the “Teach the Future: Engaging Our Future Teachers” conference hosted by the Saint Vincent College Education Department in the Fred M. Rogers Center.
Following a check-in and continental breakfast, the attendees were treated to a keynote address by Jennifer Wahl of Loyalsock, Pennsylvania, who was named the 2017-18 Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year. Attendees also participated in a number of different breakout sessions, including “What to Expect When You Become at Teacher,” “How Brain Breaks Help Your Future Students Succeed,” “Habits of Highly Effective Teachers,” “Making Your Classroom STEAMy,” and “Cultivating Creativity in Your Future Classroom,” among others.
The high school students and their teacher chaperones represented nine different school districts from across the region, including Franklin Regional, Greater Latrobe, Greensburg Salem, Hempfield, Jeannette, Ligonier Valley, Norwin, Penn-Trafford and Somerset Area.
