LATROBE, Pennsylvania – Dr. Sharon Emerson-Stonnell, national president of the Alpha Lambda Delta national honor society, has announced that 2018 Saint Vincent College graduate Taylor Hanson has been awarded the organization’s Dorothy Anderson Graduate Fellowship for the 2019-20 academic year.

Hanson, who graduated from Saint Vincent summa cum laude with a degree in biology, is currently enrolled in the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine. With the Dorothy Anderson Graduate Fellowship, Hanson receives $4,000 to help offset the expense of her graduate education for the 2019-20 academic year.

“When I learned I had received this award,” Hanson said, “I was just so thankful and honored. Alpha Lambda Delta’s generosity means so much and will be so helpful to me in continuing my education. I’m very thankful that I was able to become a part of this organization that clearly cares about supporting students’ futures.”

She was inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta, the national honor society for first-year students, in 2015, and as a senior, she was awarded the organization’s Maria Leonard Book Award, which recognizes the graduating seniors with the highest cumulative grade point average in each chapter.

In addition to her membership in Alpha Lambda Delta, Hanson was also a member of the Alpha Chi Honor Society, Tri-Beta Biological Honor Society and Gama Sigma Epsilon National Chemistry Honor Society.

Along with her academic exploits, Hanson was involved in a variety of extracurricular activities. Secretary of SVC’s Student Government Association’s Council of Presidents, she was also president of the Gilbert and Sullivan Club and member of the Saint Vincent College Players and The Company student theater group. As a senior, she held the starring role of Belle in the Players’ production of “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast," and was one of five finalists for the 2018 Saint Vincent College President's Award

A 2014 graduate of Greensburg Central Catholic High School, she is the daughter of Leslie Rodriguez and Russ Hanson.

The graduate fellowship is named in honor of Dr. Dorothy Anderson, the former dean of students at Susquehanna University who served as the 14th national president of Alpha Lambda Delta from 1991-97.
