Robert Markley, the Carpenter Technology–Latrobe Specialty Metals-sponsored lecturer in business administration at Saint Vincent College, recently represented SVC’s Alex G. McKenna School of Business, Economics and Government at Hangzhou Wanxiang Polytechnic Institute in China.
Markley, who heads Saint Vincent’s unique and successful SAP Business One certification program, taught the business software to 12 professors and three students at Hangzhou, and was present for the official unveiling of the school’s SAP University Alliance.
SAP Business One is a software package used by business worldwide to automate functions in financials, operations and human resources. Under Markley’s guidance, Saint Vincent was just the second college in North America – and fourth worldwide – to incorporate SAP Business One into its curriculum. The number of schools to do so has since grown to approximately 3,500 spanning 113 different countries.
The SAP Business One program at Saint Vincent involves a hands-on curriculum that includes transactional exercises and in-depth case studies. Through this curriculum, students in their junior year undergo intense self-study and take part in a hands-on workshop. After this, they work for an SAP partner before taking an official certification exam in the fall of their senior year. Approximately 150 SVC students have been formally trained on the software, while nearly 100 have attended professional conferences, more than 70 have landed SAP-related summer internships and 50 have taken full-time jobs within the SAP ecosystem.
Saint Vincent’s SAP Business One curriculum received worldwide recognition in Jan. 2018 with the release of a video promoting its success that was distributed to both colleges and business around the globe. Recently, Markley was also featured on The Connected Enterprise Podcast, where he spoke at length about the McKenna School and the SAP Business One program.
