LATROBE, PA – Rehearsals are underway for Saint Vincent Summer Theatre’s final show of its 51st season, the heartwarming musical “Always… Patsy Cline,” which opens 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, in the Performing Arts Center in the Robert S. Carey Student Center on the Saint Vincent College campus.
One of the most produced musicals in the U.S., “Always… Patsy Cline” is a tribute to the legendary country singer, who died tragically in a plane crash at the age of 30. The show is based on a true story about a friendship Cline formed with a fan named Louise Seger. The pair would regularly correspond until Cline’s death.
Saint Vincent Summer Theatre’s performance stars Greta Kleckner as “Patsy” and Becky Barta as “Louise,” and it will feature 25 of Cline’s biggest hits, with accompaniment by a six-piece band.
“’Always… Patsy Cline’ has enjoyed great success all over the United States,” said Greggory Brandt, Saint Vincent producing artistic director, “including a successful run off-Broadway. According to American Theatre Magazine, it is one of the most-produced musicals in America and has also been enjoyed internationally by audiences in Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia.”
The preview performance is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1. In addition to the preview performance, 7:30 p.m. performances are also scheduled for Friday, Aug. 2, Saturday, Aug. 3, Tuesday, Aug. 6, Wednesday, Aug. 7, Thursday, Aug. 8, Friday, Aug. 9, and Saturday, Aug. 10.
Five matinee performances, beginning at 2 p.m., are scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 3, Sunday, Aug. 4, Wednesday, Aug. 7, Saturday, Aug. 10, and the show’s finale on Sunday, Aug. 11.
