LATROBE, PA – The Saint Vincent College department of information technology has announced the implementation of cloud printing technology that will allow the College’s students and employees to print from their own devices, from any location, to a number of available printer kiosks located across campus.
In a response to comments submitted by students in a survey conducted by the Student Government Association (SGA), Saint Vincent has implemented the cloud printing service Wēpa.
“When a student submits a document to print from their device,” explained Peter Mahoney, chief information officer at Saint Vincent College, “the document is sent to the cloud. The student can then walk up to any of the printer kiosks to release the document to print. The printer kiosks have all been installed and are ready to be used.”
In addition to the cloud printing technology, each kiosk is equipped with USB inputs to allow the printing from flash drives and other USB devices.
Students are allowed unlimited black and white printing to any printer kiosk, with the cost already covered by the student’s technology fee. Color printing is also available for a cost of 35 cents per single-sided sheet and 50 cents per double-sided sheet.
“To print in color,” said Mahoney, “students can add money to their Wēpa account via credit card or PayPal at any printer kiosk and the cost will automatically be deducted from their account when they login or use their student ID to print at any kiosk.”
Eleven printing kiosks are located across campus. There is one kiosk in each of Saint Vincent’s seven residence halls, while they are also located in the Alfred Hall study center (Alfred 23), in the Robert S. Carey Student Center lounge, outside the Community Center dining hall and inside the newly-renovated Dale P. Latimer Library, which will be equipped with two kiosks.
One of the kiosks in the library will also have scanning capabilities, which will enable users to scan a document and print it or scan a document and save it to various cloud services (OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.).
Wēpa accounts have been created for all employees, who may load money onto their Wēpa account at any kiosk and print in both black and white (9 cents per single-sided sheet, 15 cents per double-sided sheet) and color (35 cents per single-sided sheet, 50 cents per double-sided sheet).
Guest printing is also available for non-students and non-employees, who can create an account and load money into it at any kiosk on campus.
