LATROBE, PA – Graduates of Saint Vincent College’s Alex G. McKenna School of Business, Economics and Government continue to excel in their performance on the Certified Public Accounting Examination.
According to a report issued by the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA), the first-time pass rate of recent SVC accounting graduates who took the CPA Examination in 2018 ranked 32nd nationally among 242 institutions in the small program category, comprised of schools with 10-20 candidates.
This marks the third straight year in which McKenna School graduates have garnered high marks in the NASBA report. In 2017, SVC ranked 24th out of 281 institutions for first-time pass rate among medium programs, while in 2016, SVC ranked 21st nationally among all 885 U.S. institutions participating in the CPA exam with more than 10 candidates.
In the recently released 2018 rankings, Saint Vincent College finished among the top performers in the state of Pennsylvania among schools with at least 10 CPA candidates, while nationally, SVC bested institutions including Columbia University, all Penn State campuses, Ohio State University, University of Cincinnati, Fordham University, Syracuse University, the University at Albany and the University of Maryland.
“We truly have one of the best accounting undergraduate programs in the U.S.,” said Dr. Gary Quinlivan, dean of the McKenna School. ”The good news for 2019 is that several of our graduates have contacted me about passing all four sections of the CPA exam and I anticipate that we will have another banner year! Our strengths lie in cost accounting, tax, international accounting, auditing, forensics auditing, not-for-profit and financial accounting.”
NASBA began gathering data on CPA examination candidates in 1982 and has published reports on performance and selected characteristics since 1985. This year’s report covers candidate performance for the uniform CPA examination for all four testing windows in the 2018 calendar year.
