Former Chair of Philosophy Mourned

LATROBE, PA. - Dr. Dennis P. Quinn, longtime faculty member and former chair of the Department of Philosophy at Saint Vincent College, passed away on Dec. 20, 2019, at the age of 87.

A native of Manchester, New Hampshire, Dr. Quinn was a full-time faculty member at Saint Vincent College for 42 years, teaching a variety of courses in the Department of Philosophy and authored a popular book on Emmanuel Kant's metaphysics entitled "An Examination of Kant’s Treatment of Transcendental Freedom."

After serving a tour of duty in Korea as a U.S. Marine, Dr. Quinn earned his bachelor's degree at Saint Anselm College, before earning a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Notre Dame.

Dr. Quinn is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joan; five children, Dennis Jr., Maura, John, Eileen and Anna; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 27, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the John J. Lopatich Funeral Home, 601 Weldon Street, Latrobe. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, at Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Latrobe.
