LATROBE, PA – Saint Vincent College has announced the winners of its 2020 President’s Award, Student Government Association (SGA) awards, faculty awards and Awards for Excellence in the Major Field of Study.
The awards were announced on a special Honors Convocation video produced by the College in lieu of the traditional annual ceremony, which was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Jessica Gibbs, a senior criminology, law and society major from Lemont Furnace, has been awarded the 46th annual Saint Vincent College President’s Award. Selected by Saint Vincent College president Father Paul R. Taylor, O.S.B., the President’s Award is presented annually to the member of the graduating senior class who best embodies what the Catholic, Benedictine, liberal arts and sciences college values in its students – outstanding academic achievement, student leadership and community service.
Finalists for the President’s Award included Grace Harris, early childhood education and mathematics double major from Canonsburg; Sarah O’Callaghan, early childhood education major from Columbia, Maryland; Isaac Therrien, mathematics/education major from Freedom; and Paul Weisser, politics and philosophy major from Red Lion.
Aaron Sams, instructor of education, has been honored with the Rev. Quentin Schaut, O.S.B., Faculty Award, which recognizes the contributions, leadership and achievement of a junior faculty member to the curriculum and life of Saint Vincent College.
Dr. Paul Follansbee, professor of engineering science, was named the recipient of the Boniface Wimmer Faculty Award, which recognizes a senior faculty member for sustained excellence.
Three students were named recipients of the C’1968 Fr. Ronald R. Gorka Scholarship Award, which has a purpose of positively affecting a junior student and to helping him or her reach the potential recognized in him or her by faculty, administration and staff. The 2020 recipients include Anne Pamphile, junior politics major from Turtle Creek; Jesse Gillespie, junior criminology, law and society major from Greensburg; and Carlee Kilgus, junior integrated science/allied health major from Bridgeville.
SGA Senior Awards were presented to Joel Santoro, business economics major from Indiana, Pennsylvania; Juliana Ruggiero, integrated science/allied health major from Elkridge, Maryland; Payton Knupp, management major from Latrobe; Jordan Joseph, engineering science major from Swissvale; and Jack Kilkeary, management major from Latrobe. Mary Collins, vice president of student affairs, has been named the 2020 SGA Administrator of the Year, while Dr. Jason King, professor of theology, was awarded the 2020 SGA Faculty Award.
