A Message from President Rev. Paul R. Taylor, O.S.B.
Dear Members of the Saint Vincent Community,
Saint Vincent College condemns all forms of racism, bigotry, hatred, discrimination and violence, which are sins against God and against humanity. There is no place in our world for any of these. We are heartbroken as we have witnessed the deaths of George Floyd and many others in the Black community who have lost their lives in this violence.
The command of Jesus Christ is clear: “Love one another.” There are no exceptions. We seek to follow that command, as did our founder, Boniface Wimmer who said, “to all who knock, welcome.” As a Catholic, Benedictine college, we must be part of the solution, which starts by standing in solidarity with our Black community by creating a meaningful forum for dialogue for all in our community.
We are engaging our students, faculty, administrators, alumni, local community and especially the student leaders of our Uniting All People club, to continue to listen and strengthen the conversation around these issues that plague our society, and to gain a deeper understanding of the perspectives and experiences which will help to bring unity.
These important conversations are ongoing and open to all. We remain committed to a meaningful dialogue and deepening the bond of peace which will lead us to the unity we all seek.
Let us pray for one another and for our nation.
Rev. Paul R. Taylor, O.S.B.
