The Saint Vincent College community mourns the death of Pope Francis, offering prayers and Masses for the repose of his soul and in gratitude for his leadership of the Church. The College will celebrate a Mass in his honor at 7 p.m. this evening in the Mary, Mother of Wisdom Student Chapel for students returning from Easter break and for the public.
Throughout his pontificate, his writings and teaching have guided our community. In Fratelli Tutti, he affirmed that there is no human life that is a "throwaway," from the "poor and disabled, to the ‘not yet useful’ like the unborn, to the ‘no longer needed,’ like the elderly." In Laudato Si, he affirmed the importance of our care for the earth, which is a gift from God and the home that He gives us.
Pope Francis directly addressed college and university communities in many speeches and documents, particularly in Veritatis Gaudium, "The Joy of Truth." Saint Vincent College reaffirms our seeking of the Truth in our education that is inspired by Pope Francis and our Church.
