When Saint Vincent announces a delay or cancellation, information will be broadcast via the media, and e2Campus; detailed information will be available on the intranet. Delays will be time specific (Saint Vincent will open at (specific time). Staff will adhere to the following procedures:
Non-essential Staff
- Permitted to report as indicated in the announcement
- Will receive normal full day pay if staff member reports to work at the end of the delay period and completes his/her regular work schedule
- The Business Office will accept time sheets that indicate the staff members’ regular work hour schedule; no additional notations will be necessary
- It is Saint Vincent’s policy to pay all non-essential staff members who report to work on a delayed schedule the staff members’ normal workday wages
In the event a staff member is further delayed in reporting to work beyond the announced delayed opening:
- The staff member will be required to utilize vacation, personal or unpaid time or arrange to make up the time missed to cover the additional absence
- Example: Saint Vincent opens at 10:00 but a staff member does not report until noon, the staff member is required to use two hours of vacation or personal time; take the time off as unpaid; or arrange to make up the time missed.
- In the event a staff member does not report to work when a delay is announced:
- The staff member is required to use a full vacation or personal day; take the time off as unpaid; or arrange to make up the time missed.
- Pay during a delay period is only available to staff members who report to work that day
- Hours paid during a delay or closing for non-essential staff will not be considered for the purpose of calculating
Essential Staff:
- Essential staff members have been designated by the supervisors and, as such, are expected to report during delays or
- Essential staff members who work during a delay period or closing have the following options:
- Hours worked during a delay or closing will be paid at the rate of time and a half and the time will be considered in the computation of overtime
- Hours worked during a delay or closing will be paid at straight time; staff member will receive hour-for- hour time to be used as paid time off. Paid time off must be used by the end of the fiscal year or the time will be forfeited.
- Hours worked during a delay or closing will be considered in the computation of overtime during that work week.
- Essential staff should mark timesheets using the following codes for the hours worked during a delay or closing
- Emergency Closing: “EC”
- Cancellation: “SD”
- If essential staff members are unable to report to work, supervisors must be notified
- Hourly staff deemed to be essential staff during emergency closing of the campus shall be paid that rate of double time for work during the closing period.
