Employee Responsibilities

All Saint Vincent employees, including faculty, administrative, and hourly staff, coaches, graduate assistants, volunteers, and all student-employees are designated as either Confidential Employees or Responsible Employees for the purposes of this policy.

Confidential Employees

Campus or community professionals with the statutorily granted ability to maintain information as privileged are designated as Confidential Employees. Saint Vincent categorizes Confidential Employees as “Confidential Employees” and Confidential Support Persons.

Employees categorized as Confidential Employees include ordained priests and ordained clergy, the health care providers and counselors at the Saint Vincent Wellness Center, and the mental health professionals in the Saint Vincent Wellness Center, as well as any programs that contract with Saint Vincent to provide mental health professional services, can provide complete confidentiality to those who make disclosures of prohibited conduct to them only with respect to information received while the employee is functioning withing the scope of their duties to which the privilege or confidentiality applies (e.g., within the seal of the confessional, while providing pastoral care, during counseling sessions, receiving medical treatment, etc…).

Employees categorized as Confidential Support Persons are those employees who provide services and/or assistance to individuals who have experienced prohibited conduct and include the Benedictine monks who are not ordained priests and whose work includes providing pastoral care to students as part of the Campus Ministry Office. Confidential status only applies with respect to information received about sex discrimination in connection with providing those services.

These individuals provide considerable support for those who have been subjected to prohibited conduct and who are not yet ready to officially make a report to the College or, where the conduct may also be criminal, law enforcement. Information shared with these individuals is not shared with the College, however, these employees must provide those who share information related to prohibited conduct with them with the name and contact information for the Title IX Coordinator.

Responsible Employees

Responsible Employees are those employees or volunteers not designated as Confidential Employees.  When a Responsible Employee receives information regarding conduct that may be prohibited conduct, this information must be conveyed to the Title IX Coordinator.
