Center for Catholic Thought and Culture Launches Weekly Virtual Happy Hour

by Public Relations | May 04, 2020

LATROBE, PA – The Center for Catholic Thought and Culture at Saint Vincent College has launched a weekly online discussion group based on the popular book Drinking with the Saints (Regenry History, 2015) by Dr. Michael P. Foley.

At 5 p.m. (ET) each Wednesday, participants are invited to take part in the Drinking with the Saints Virtual Happy Hour, hosted by Dr. Michael Krom, chair of the Saint Vincent College Philosophy Department and director of the College’s Benedictine Leadership Studies program. Held via Zoom, participants take part in an opening prayer, share libations in celebration of the saint of the day and engage in open-ended discussion, before concluding with an Angelus.

Launched in mid-April, the Drinking with the Saints virtual happy hour has been a hit, attracting an average of 35 viewers that have hailed from nine states and three time zones. Drs. Foley and Krom established this forum as a way to help build up the Body of Christ in the challenging circumstances of social distancing.

Each week, special guest bartenders join in the discussion, including Foley, who was featured on the April 29 episode. Upcoming guests include Dr. Jared Staudt, director of formation for the Archdiocese of Denver and author of The Beer Option:  Brewing a Catholic Culture, Yesterday & Today (Angelico Press, 2018) on May 13, and Joseph Pearce, award-winning Catholic author and EWTN television host, on May 27.

The weekly sessions are free and open to the public, but space is limited. To register, email Krom at michael.krom@stvincent.edu with your name and hometown.
