Virtual Homecoming and Fall Family Weekend Events Planned Sept. 23-27

LATROBE, PA – The Saint Vincent College Office of Alumni Relations is teaming up with the Office of Campus Life in planning a series of virtual events to celebrate 2020 Homecoming and Fall Family Weekend from Wednesday, Sept. 23, through Sunday, Sept. 27.

Despite the cancellation of the traditional on-campus Homecoming and Fall Family Weekend, alumni, friends and families are invited to participate in a broad array of virtual events over the five-day span.

The schedule for Saint Vincent College’s 2020 Virtual Homecoming and Fall Family Weekend is as follows:

Wednesday, Sept. 23

7 p.m. - Join SVC president Father Paul Taylor, O.S.B., for the official kickoff of the 2020 Virtual Homecoming and Fall Family Weekend.

7:30 p.m. – A virtual tour of campus will be led by admission counselor Sharon Nincke, C’18.

8 p.m. – Dr. John Aupperle, professor of business and campus minister, will lead a thoughtful lecture entitled “Abraham Lincoln: Legend or Leader?”, which will examine the 16th U.S. president from the point of view of scholarship vs. mythology.  

8 p.m. -  The Office of Campus Life hosts a virtual Saint Vincent College Trivia Night.

Thursday, Sept. 24

7 p.m. - SVC president Father Paul Taylor, O.S.B., will deliver the State of Saint Vincent address.

7:30 p.m. - View a virtual planetarium show from Saint Vincent College’s Angelo Taiani Planetarium at the Sis and Herman Dupré Science Pavilion.

8:15 p.m. - Gather future Bearcats (ages 2-8) for a special evening story time, read by Saint Vincent College students.

9 p.m. -  A virtual bingo will be hosted by the Office of Campus Life, with prizes awarded to winners.

Friday, Sept. 25

7 p.m. - The popular event from years back, “Ask a Benedictine,” returns, as a Benedictine monk will answer any questions from participants during the special webinar.

8 p.m. - The Saint Vincent College class of 1970 will host a virtual (Zoom) gathering to commemorate its 50th reunion.

8 p.m. - The Office of Campus Life will host an online Madden ’21 tournament, open to current students, alumni and friends. A limited number of spots are available for gameplay, while the tournament will be livestreamed for spectators.

Saturday, Sept. 26

9 a.m. - Join runners and walkers from across the nation in a virtual 5K walk/run benefiting the Saint Vincent College Student Emergency Fund.

10 a.m. -  The Saint Vincent College class of 1990 will host a virtual (Zoom) gathering to commemorate its 30th reunion.

11 a.m. -  The Saint Vincent College class of 1995 will host a virtual (Zoom) gathering to commemorate its 25th reunion.

11:30 a.m. - Take a video tour of Saint Vincent’s beloved Gristmill and learn how the Benedictines have been producing their own flour for more than a century.

Sunday, Sept. 27

10 a.m. - Celebrate the lives of the alumni who have passed away within the last year during a live stream of this special memorial Mass.
