LATROBE, PA – Rev. Msgr. Larry J. Kulick, JCL, VG, a 1988 graduate of Saint Vincent College and 1992 graduate of Saint Vincent Seminary, has been appointed bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Greensburg by Pope Francis I.

Bishop-elect Kulick will become the sixth bishop of the Greensburg diocese and succeeds Bishop Edward C. Malesic, who was named the bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland in September. Since Bishop Malesic’s departure, Bishop-elect Kulick has served as administrator of the Greensburg diocese, along with serving as pastor of Saint James Roman Catholic Parish in New Alexandria since 2012.

He was ordained to the priesthood on May 16, 1992, by Bishop Anthony G. Bosco at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg. Bishop-elect Kulick is a native of Leechburg and graduate of Saint Joseph High School, Natrona Heights.

“The entire Benedictine Community at Saint Vincent and beyond extends heartfelt congratulations to Bishop-elect Larry J. Kulick as the sixth bishop of the Diocese of Greensburg,” said Rt. Rev. Martin de Porres Bartel, O.S.B., Archabbot of Saint Vincent Archabbey and chancellor of Saint Vincent College. “Bishop-elect Kulick has spent his life living and working in the Diocese of Greensburg. He received his training for the priesthood at Saint Vincent Seminary and completed his undergraduate work at Saint Vincent College. We are so pleased that ‘one of our own’ will take the helm as our chief Shepherd. We look forward to our continued partnership with him. We will be praying for him and all the clergy, religious and lay persons of the diocese as this transition continues. May God continue to bless his ministry in the Diocese of Greensburg.”

“Saint Vincent College extends its congratulations to Bishop-elect Kulick on this new role,” said Father Paul R. Taylor, O.S.B., Saint Vincent College president. “We are praying for him as he takes over leadership of the Diocese of Greensburg. He has given pastoral service to the Catholic community of this area for more than 30 years. As a graduate of both Saint Vincent College and Saint Vincent Seminary, Bishop-elect Kulick knows well the academic, spiritual and social transformation that our students experience at Saint Vincent. We look forward to continuing to work with him in this critical role in our church.”

“The students, faculty, staff and alumni of Saint Vincent Seminary rejoice in the appointment of Bishop-elect Kulick as the new bishop of Greensburg,” said Very Rev. Edward Mazich, O.S.B., rector of Saint Vincent Seminary. “We are confident that the strength, kindness, leadership and zeal for the Lord that he has shown through many years of priestly ministry will be a great blessing for the entire Diocese of Greensburg and the universal Church.”

The official ordination and installation of Bishop-elect Kulick is scheduled for Feb. 11, 2020.
