Residency

Living on campus is an integral part of the Saint Vincent experience, fostering personal growth, academic success, and a sense of community among students. This policy outlines the expectations, requirements, and resources associated with on-campus housing, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all residents. By choosing to live on campus, students commit to upholding the college’s values and contributing to a respectful, collaborative living space that enhances their educational journey.

While on-campus living offers unique opportunities, Saint Vincent also recognizes that many students commute to campus and contribute significantly to the vibrancy of our community. Commuter students are valued members of the university and have access to resources, programs, and support tailored to their needs.

Residential Students

Freshmen under 21 years of age are required to reside on-campus or may live with a parent/legal guardian if within a 50-mile radius of the campus. Freshman students from more than 50 miles away may request permission to live with a close adult relative in an established household in the local area. Requests for exceptions to the freshman residency requirement must be made in writing to the Dean of Students before the start of classes.

No freshman student may live independently or with other students in a rented apartment or house.

Non-traditional students (i.e. over traditional age, married, etc.) are exempt from these residency requirements

See Student Housing for more information.

Commuting Students

First-year commuter students are assigned to a Pod in Saint Benedict Hall and are encouraged to join in the many activities available to them.

A Commuter Lounge is available in Placid Hall.

Commuters are responsible for providing both a permanent and local mailing address and telephone number to the Office of Student Affairs each year.

As representatives of Saint Vincent College, students living off-campus are expected to demonstrate Benedictine hospitality and respect neighbors’ rights to a quiet, clean, safe, and peaceful neighborhood.

Commuter students, like their residential peers, are held to the same standards of student conduct and are expected to uphold the college’s policies both on campus and off campus, ensuring a respectful and safe environment that reflects the college’s values in all settings.  See Off-Campus Conduct for more information.
