LATROBE, PA – Professor and author Dr. Mary C. Boys, S.N.J.M., will deliver the Rabbi Jason Z. Edelstein Lecture in Catholic-Jewish Dialogue on Oct. 30 at Saint Vincent College. The lecture will begin at 7 p.m. Dr. Frank J. Luparello Lecture Hall in the Sis and Herman Dupré Science Pavilion on campus. A reception with light refreshments will be held at 6:15 p.m.

Boys will speak on “Recovering the Jewish Jesus and Reimagining a Relationship.”

“In this lecture, I will identify the ways in which the gospel accounts depict Jesus as a Jew from Nazareth of Galilee, summarize how and why the early church was unable to recognize his Jewishness, reflect on the consequences of this omission for Jews and Christians and highlight the insights made possible by contemporary explorations of the Jewish Jesus Christ,” Boys said.

Boys is the Skinner and McAlpin Professor of Practical Theology at Union Theological Seminary in New York. She has written six books, including “Redeeming Our Sacred Story: The Death of Jesus and Relations Between Jews and Christians.” She has edited three books and numerous articles and book chapters in a range of scholarly publications.

A native of Seattle, Boys has been a vowed member of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary (S.N.J.M.) since 1968. She is a member of the Committee on Religion, Ethics and the Holocaust at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., and the National Catholic Center for Holocaust Education at Seton Hill University.
