LATROBE, PA – The Saint Vincent College Board of Directors has approved a new Bachelor of Science in Mathematics/Actuarial Science program, effective in fall 2025.

“I am very excited that we will be able to offer this degree in mathematics/actuarial science,” said Stephen Jodis, dean of the Herbert W. Boyer School of Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Computing. “I am very proud of our Department of Mathematics for the work it has done in recent years to lay the groundwork for this program and construct a strong curriculum.”

This four-year program will replace the five-year, dual-degree mathematics/actuarial science program previously offered by Saint Vincent in cooperation with Robert Morris University. Current Saint Vincent students can switch into the new major immediately.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics employment of actuaries is projected to grow 22 percent from 2023 to 2033. In the past, some Saint Vincent graduates with mathematics degrees have moved into actuarial careers. This program will serve students like them who are interested in actuarial science.

The program will cover the background for the Financial Mathematics Exam and the Probability Exam by the Society of Actuaries and will include upper-level mathematics and finance courses.

Saint Vincent College will pursue the program’s approval by the Society of Actuaries.
