LATROBE, PA – During her time as a student at Saint Vincent College, Sarah Hartner has pursued an unusual combination of studies.

Hartner, a senior from Irwin, is majoring in digital art and media with a concentration in graphic design. She has minors in theology and marketing.

“People always say to me, ‘Oh, that's an interesting mix,’” Hartner said with a laugh. “I decided on graphic design during my senior year of high school. Coming into college, I wanted to minor in marketing because I figured it would help me [professionally]. I always thought it would be cool to minor in theology and thought that if I could incorporate [theology] into my future somehow, it would be amazing.”

Not only did Hartner pull it all off, but she also landed a job that fits her unique skill set seven months before she will graduate. In October, Hartner was hired by the Diocese of Greensburg as content coordinator for multimedia platforms of “The Catholic Accent.”

Hartner will be responsible for videography and photography duties for “The Catholic Accent” television show, website and newspaper. She also will be involved with social media and parish communications.

“Getting the job was definitely a weight off my shoulders,” Hartner said. “I feel so blessed. I can’t believe that I’m already a senior, let alone having a job lined up.”

Last summer, Hartner worked an internship with the Diocese. Her success in that role made her a prime candidate for the full-time job.

“Sarah quickly distinguished herself with her incredible talent and eye for videography and design,” said Jennifer Meile, C’00, chief communications officer and managing director of evangelization for the Diocese of Greensburg. “We were looking to add to our staff and were truly blessed that the most qualified candidate for our growing needs was already working in our office.”

Although her full-time position doesn’t begin until June 1, Hartner already is working part-time for the Diocese while continuing her Saint Vincent work-study jobs as social media manager for the Career and Professional Development Center, Campus Ministry and the Theology Department. In the spring, Hartner plans to reduce her work-study hours and increase her Diocese hours as she transitions into her role.

“I love what I do and all the activities I'm involved in,” Hartner said. “I love my work studies, so I am not really looking forward to cutting back on work-study hours. I guess it’s because of the way I was raised by my parents. They’ve always been hard workers.”
