LATROBE, PA – Two members of the Saint Vincent College faculty—Dr. Michael Urick and Aaron Allen—were honored with Trailblazer Awards on May 23 by the Westmoreland-Fayette Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
Urick, C’04, is dean of the Alex G. McKenna School of Business, Economics and Government. Allen is an adjunct professor in the McKenna School’s criminology, law and society program and is a corporal with the Pennsylvania State Police.
The Trailblazer awards recognize local professionals under the age of 45 who exemplify Scout principles.
Urick was honored for his career in academia as a teacher, administrator and researcher.
“It’s quite an unexpected honor to be presented with the Trailblazer recognition from the Scouts,” Dr. Urick said. “I am blessed to be able to work with the McKenna School team at Saint Vincent to help the institution and its programs create positive impact in the community.”
Allen was feted for the work he does in the community as a trooper, teacher and mentor.
“I wish I would have been involved in the Scouts organization as a young man, but I am honored in being an awardee for their Trailblazer award,” Allen said. “Programs like this help kids find their way in life and stay out of trouble. I couldn’t have accomplished this without great mentorship from Dr. Jeff Mallory [SVC executive vice president and chief operating officer], Pennsylvania State Trooper Lt. William Slaton and a great friend of mine, Charles Blanchard, among many others who support my passion for community service, mentorship and engagement.”
